RICHMOND, Va. – The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation announced today that seven schools and non-profits in Richmond, Va. will receive $48,500 in grant funding to open their own Loads of Love (LOL) laundry centers to serve children in their community. The new locations join five existing sites in the Richmond area and together will impact nearly 2,500 children annually.

In celebration of the new grant awardees, the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation and current Redskins players will work alongside Bon Secours Health System volunteers to renovate and beautify a brand new Loads of Love laundry center space at George W. Carver Elementary School in Richmond, Va. on Friday, Aug. 2 from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. The laundry center will provide students experiencing homelessness or unstable living situations with access to clean clothes at no cost to them or their families.

"We remain committed to the notion that having clean clothes should never be a barrier for attending school and learning," said Carlyle Neyazi, Executive Director of the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation. "The Loads of Love program has the potential to provide this essential service to more than 1,000 Title 1 schools in our market and help serve students who face these challenges every day. These seven new sites are just the tip of the iceberg, and we're excited to reveal many more 2019 grant awardees in the coming weeks."

Launched in 2017 by the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation in partnership with Redskins long snapper Nick Sundberg and his wife, Flor, Loads of Love installs laundry facilities in schools and non-profit organizations to remove a barrier for attendance as well as classroom and extracurricular participation, by providing kids with a discreet solution to the challenge of having clean clothes. To date, the Redskins Charitable Foundation has provided nearly $500,000 in funding to 52 Loads of Love sites.

Sites to receive funding in Richmond, Va. are as listed:

·        George W. Carver Elementary School

·        Overby-Sheppard Elementary School

·        Ginter Park Elementary School

·        George Wythe High School

Current Redskins players, staff members and volunteers will be in attendance on Friday to assist with a number of tasks including painting, building and installation. By the end of the morning, the finished laundry center will come equipped with new shelving, folding tables, laundry supplies and more.

Representatives from the 12 new and existing Loads of Love sites in Richmond, Va. will join the Redskins Charitable Foundation for a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:00 a.m. The event will conclude with a Play 60 clinic for all Carver Elementary School students in attendance.
