The Redskins have signed free agent tight end E.J. Bibbs, who has previous NFL experience with the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Washington Redskins on Thursday announced the signing of free agent tight end E.J. Bibbs.

In a corresponding move, the team waived linebacker Houston Bates with a failed physical designation.

Bibbs, 25, is entering his second NFL season, having previously spent time with the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars.

As a rookie during the 2015 season, Bibbs appeared in seven games and recorded one reception for seven yards. He was the only undrafted rookie to earn a spot on Cleveland's active roster for all 17 weeks that season.

Last year, Bibbs split time between the Browns' and Jaguars' practice squad.

After beginning his college career at Arizona Western Community College, Bibbs transferred to Iowa State where he appeared in 22 games and recorded 84 receptions for 844 yards and 10 touchdowns.

With Bibbs' addition, the Redskins now have seven tight ends on the roster as he joins Jordan Reed, Vernon Davis, Niles Paul, Derek Carrier, Jeremy Sprinkle and Manasseh Garner.

Bates, meanwhile, appeared in 24 games for the Redskins over the 2015-16 seasons. Earning a spot on the active roster as a rookie in 2015 despite being undrafted out of Louisiana Tech, Bates recorded 10 tackles and a safety. Last year he appeared in 14 games.
