After showing positive signs during last year's training camp before suffering a torn quad tendon, the Redskins have re-signed veteran defensive lineman Phil Taylor Sr.

The Washington Redskins are bringing back defensive lineman Phil Taylor Sr., as the team announced on Tuesday that they have re-signed the veteran.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Taylor, 29, is entering his fifth NFL season after originally entering the professional ranks as a first round selection for the Cleveland Browns in the 2011 NFL Draft.

He was signed by the Redskins last offseason on a Reserve/Future contract and was one of Washington's surprise performers during training camp. In fact, he was the team's starting nose tackle to open up preseason action and even recorded a sack against the Green Bay Packers before suffering a season-ending torn quad tendon the next week against the Cincinnati Bengals.

"I feel terrible for Phil because he did a great job at getting himself ready to play," said Redskins head coach Jay Gruden at the time. "He's in excellent shape but it's just an unfortunate injury."

For his career, the Brandywine, Md., native has appeared in 44 regular season games, recording 109 tackles (69 solo) along with seven sacks and three passes defensed.

During his rookie season in 2011, the Baylor product recorded career highs in both tackles (59) and sacks (four) en route to being named to the PFWA All-Rookie team.

In his second season in 2012, Brown appeared in eight games with seven starts after spending the first two months of the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Taylor's final two seasons in Cleveland (2013-14), the 6-foot-3, 343 pounder appeared in a combined 20 games to register 36 tackles with two sacks and two passes defensed.

He spent time on the Denver Broncos' offseason roster in 2016 as well before joining the Redskins last January.

With his re-signing, the Redskins currently have 10 defensive lineman on the active roster, joining Jonathan Allen, Tavaris Barnes Sr., A.J. Francis, Ziggy Hood, Montori Hughes, Matt Ioannidis, Anthony Lanier II, Terrell McClain, Stacy McGee and Ondre Pipkins.
