On Wednesday, April 5th, the Women of Washington (WOW), Women in Sports and Entertainment (WISE) and Division of Sport, Recreation and Tourism at George Mason University hosted a panel on GMU's campus featuring four successful women in the sports industry. During the panel titled Women in Sports Leadership – Challenges and Opportunities the group discussed their current roles in the industry, the road they took to get to where they are today and the different challenges that have come up in their career. The panel featured the following guests:
- Christine Bolger, Associate Director, Coaching Education at United States Olympic Committee
- Terri Carmichael Jackson, Director of Operations, Women’s National Basketball Player Association
- Lyn Midcap, Partnership Marketing Manager, Washington Redskins
- Jennifer Montgomery, Director of Athletic Development, George Mason University
The event was moderated by Dr. Jaqueline McDowell, a professor in the Division of Sport, Recreation and Tourism at George Mason University. Redskins Alum, Super Bowl Champion and current George Mason Director of Athletics Brad Edwards was on hand to open up the evening with some of his own experiences while playing for Washington and with his sister being involved with athletics throughout her life.
Jennifer Montgomery, Director of Athletic Development at George Mason was especially excited to have the event hosted at the school, “It’s great to have professional and collegiate athletics come together it doesn’t happen very often but to have young women hear about experiences in both the professional and collegiate athletics is great. “
Along with the panel discussion, guests were able to network with the panelists and each other while enjoying Papa John’s pizza and Coca-Cola beverages. Each guest received a WOW notebook along with the opportunity to be involved in a raffle at the end of the evening.
