Washington Redskins linebacker Houston Bates recently met with the first place-finishing Judith P. Hoyer Montessori School from the Redskins Draft Day Dash School Challenge.
Redskins linebacker Houston Bates visited the Judith P. Hoyer Montessori School in Landover, Md., on Friday, June 3 to celebrate the school's first place finish in the Redskins Draft Day Dash School Challenge.
Judith P Hoyer Montessori School won the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundationâs School Challenge for the 5K and hosted an assembly at their school with linebacker Houston Bates.
The challenge required a school to choose a team captain, come up with a team name, and recruit participants. Prizes were awarded to the top three school teams, with the largest team winning $5,000 to use toward their health and wellness programs as well as a visit from a Redskins player.
Judith P. Hoyer recruited 104 runners to the Redskins 2016 Draft Day Dash, the best of the 27 schools that participated in the challenge.
At the celebration on June 3, Bates thanked the school for participating during an assembly and presented a check from the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation. He then led students in Play 60 activities and freestyle dancing to lead by example that a healthy lifestyle can be easy and fun.
Bates then visited the classrooms that had signed up the most 5K participants and spoke with students, took photos and handed out goody bags.
Later, a hula hoop contest with students and teachers was held with Bates as the star hooper. Reports indicate that everybody was a winner and happy to have a "dash" of excitement before the weekend.
