The Redskins had a lot of stuff to remember in 2017.
Now that the season has come to a close, the Redskins Blog will select its favorite things from Redskins fans, players, coaches and team personnel over the last 12 months.
We’ll start with our five favorite Redskins tweets.
*1. The Sean Taylor Remembrance *
This year marked the 10th anniversary of Sean Taylor’s passing. To honor Taylor and his enduring legacy, I spoke with more than 25 of his former teammates, coaches and friends and asked for their favorite stories about one of the best safeties to ever play in the NFL.
2. The Relationship Goals
Back in training camp, wide receiver Terrelle Pryor Sr. and his girlfriend could usually be found together after practice. One day, we caught a glimpse into the strength of their relationship. Their handshake and kiss earned some strong engagement from fans – and it’s likely that quite a few of those retweets signified a desire for certain significant others to engage in something similar. Here’s to Pryor for inspiring new goals for 2018 couples.
3. The Cleats Off His Feet
During the Redskins Salute game against the Minnesota Vikings, cornerback Josh Norman did the unusual and extremely generous by presenting the customized cleats off his feet to Commandant of the Marine Corps General Robert B. Neller. He signed them and handed them over before heading into the tunnel to put on his less flashy game cleats. It was quite a gesture and another example of Norman’s desire to give back to the community.
4. The 'Yes'
Not as dramatic or unique as some of Cousins’s other excited proclamations following big-time victories, but something must be said for its short, plucky simplicity. Exclaiming “Yes” with a fist pump is also an extremely appropriate way to summarize how the Redskins felt leaving Seattle with a victory after an improbable drive down the field, punctuated by two great throws in the final minutes. Yes, indeed.
5. The Pregame Speech
The vocal leader since training camp, safety D.J. Swearinger Sr. kept his commitment as captain by leading pregame huddles every week. If you were uncertain of his devotion to the game, this tweet alone will show how foolish you were to doubt the strength of his vocal cords and desire to rally his teammates. Heart. Passion. Determination. That’s all you need.
