Alex Santos enters his 11th season with Washington in 2016 and his third as the Redskins’ Director of Pro Personnel after being named to his current role on May 31, 2014. He is responsible for coordinating the advance scouting of FRONT OFFICE (CONT.) 34 2016 WASHINGTON REDSKINS MEDIA GUIDE STAFF BIOS Redskins opponents, participating in all draft meetings, and the evaluation of all professional leagues for potential free agents and trade prospects.

Santos was part of a staff that identified and signed a number of key midseason contributors during the team’s run to an NFC East title in 2015. The Redskins received significant contributions from a number of in-season signings, including cornerback Will Blackmon (tied for team lead in interceptions after signing prior to Week 2), linebacker Mason Foster (started the final five games of the season after signing in Week 4) and running back Pierre Thomas (caught seven passes for 67 yards in division-clinching win after signing with the team only two weeks earlier).

Santos previously spent five seasons from 2009-13 as a pro scout, where in addition to the advance scouting of Redskins opponents, he was responsible for assisting with the club’s evaluation of personnel in the NFL and Canadian Football League. He originally joined the Redskins in 2006 as a pro personnel assistant.

Santos spent 2005 as a graduate assistant and quality control/offensive line intern coach at Vanderbilt University. Prior to that, he was the assistant head football coach at Eastside High School in Paterson, N.J. At Eastside, he also coached the offensive line, directed the strength and conditioning program and was one of the school’s special education instructors.

A four-year starter at guard for North Carolina State University, Santos graduated in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish literature. He also earned a Master's degree from New Jersey City State University. A native of Paterson, N.J., he currently resides in Ashburn, Va., with his wife, Melanie, and daughter, Arya.
