Vernon Davis Talks Redskins Return And Kirk Cousins On 'Good Morning Football'

Posted Mar 12, 2017

Redskins tight end Vernon Davis was a guest on NFL Network's "Good Morning Football" on Thursday, and talked about the future of quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Vernon Davis is back with the Washington Redskins, and he wants his quarterback to keep throwing him passes in 2017.

Davis – who recently re-signed with the Redskins – joined NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” on Wednesday, and was asked how confident he is in Kirk Cousins returning to Washington for the 2017 season, being that he still hasn’t signed his franchise tag tender.

Davis seemed very upbeat about Cousins’ return for the upcoming season, even to the point of being a cheerleader for his signal-caller.

“I’m very confident and optimistic about it,” Davis said. “The organization loves Kirk. You talk about a quarterback; he is just a great leader. Great leaders minimize themselves in the locker room but when they get on the field or in the meeting room they stand out like a sore thumb. I hope that he comes back. We need him, come on Kirk we need you.”

With the free agency period underway, and players moving onto different teams, no team – including the Redskins – will look exactly the same once the regular season opener rolls around in September.

Even with a roster that's currently seeing familar faces leave but new ones entering the fold, Davis believes that Washington’s management will do what needs to be done in order to make the team viable and competitive for the 2017 season.

“I’m just being optimistic about everything, and I feel like the upper management, [Redskins owner] Dan [Snyder] is going to do everything he can,” Davis said. “Dan Snyder and [Redskins President] Bruce Allen are terrific when it comes to picking talent and making sure that we have all the things that we need to be successful. I think they will do a great job and we can move forward.”

Davis has been in the NFL for quite a long time: long enough to play in 164 regular season games. If you didn’t already know Davis has played for a dozen years, you might be surprised in looking at him, because he doesn’t look like he’s 33-years-old in the slightest.

Davis was asked how the league, and its players, has changed over the years, with the come-uppance of players in the social media era.

“When I came in, everyone was serious and the locker room was really tight,” Davis said. “If they saw a guy acting silly, then they would get on him. Now, everyone is just dancing, but it is a good thing. When I got here, I found myself all over again. I felt revived and these guys are just full of energy. It makes you feel like you have a ton of energy and I love it. That is another reason I wanted to re-sign with the Washington Redskins.”
