Trent Williams Named Sporting News All-Pro For Second Consecutive Year

Posted Jan 24, 2018

Despite playing just 10 games, league coached named left tackle Trent Williams an All-Pro for the second consecutive year.

Six-time Pro Bowler Trent Williams continues to add accolades to his already impressive resume.

Recently completing his eighth year with the Redskins, the offensive lineman was named to the 2017 Sporting News All-Pro team for the second year in a row. Voted annually by the league’s coaches, Williams was selected for his standout performance, despite battling an on-going knee injury that eventually led to surgery in late December.

Although injured for most of the season, Williams still managed to play in 10 games and excel at his position. According to Pro Football Focus, Williams did not allow a sack on 363 passing block snaps this in 2017, making him the only offensive tackle this past year in the NFL to do so.

With his sixth Pro Bowl selection, Williams is now tied for the second for the longest consecutive Pro Bowl appearances by a Redskins player in franchise history.

“He’s the toughest guy on this football team,” head coach Jay Gruden said of the Oklahoma alum.

Gerald McCoy, another Oklahoma product playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, praised Williams for his athleticism.

“I don’t even think he’s human,” McCoy wrote in an article for The Player’s Tribune over the summer. “He must be some kind of mutant or something. He’s got a big, wide body, really long arms and big, strong hands. When you’re going up against him, if he gets his hands on you, you’re in trouble, man.”

Williams was originally drafted in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft to the Redskins and continues to be a reliable asset to the team. He’s currently recovering from his knee surgery and hopes to be back before next season.

“It will be a little while before he is up and rolling but hopefully we will get him back for training camp,” Gruden said.
