Mel Gray To Talk Of Fame Network: Brian Mitchell Should Be In HOF

Posted Nov 28, 2017

Fellow standout returner Mel Gray talked with the Talk Of Fame Network recently to highlight another returner that should receive consideration to be in the Hall Of Fame - Brian Mitchell.

As a three-time All-Pro selection with nine career return touchdowns, Mel Gray knows a thing or two about being a kick/punt returner. He joined the Talk Of Fame Network to talk about returning and highlighted a player who has an even better resume as a returner: former Washington Redskins standout Brian Mitchell.

Mitchell, who played with the Redskins for 10 years, totaled 13 return touchdowns – nine of which came on punts – in his 14-year career. He led the NFL in all-purpose yards four times, and three times set the pace in punt return touchdowns. Mitchell holds the NFL records for career punt-return yards, kickoff-return yards and total return yards.

Gray believes that should give Mitchell consideration to be a member of the NFL’s Hall of Fame.

“If I were to choose one, other than myself,” said Gray, who is also not a member of the Hall, “it would probably be Brian Mitchell because he did it consistently, like I did, (and) he made the plays in moments when it was needed.”
