LaVar Arrington Takes Head Coaching Job At Pasadena's Maranatha High School

Posted Feb 13, 2018

The former Redskins linebacker will become the new head coach of Pasadena Maranatha High School football team.

Former Redskins linebacker LaVar Arrington is jumping into the high school head coaching ranks, joining Maranatha High School, a Christian Academy in Pasadena, Calif., to lead its football program.

Arrington had most recently spent time serving as a linebacker and assistant defensive coordinator for Long Beach Poly High School, which had been coached by former Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce before he stepped down this December.

The Redskins’ No. 2 overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft, Arrington played six seasons with the Redskins, earning three Pro Bowls, and has done a variety of football-related activities since his retirement around a decade ago.

Arrington has been a frequent contributor and analyst on NFL Network and other radio shows. He formed a sports-management agency, opened a restaurant in Maryland and started a football training company.

Now he’ll take the next step in his high school coaching career.

“I’m most excited about this opportunity because Maranatha is a great institution,” Arrington said via the school’s website. “Coach [Steve] Bogan did a heck of a job and built a strong foundation. I’m looking forward to continuing the football legacy at Maranatha.”
