Kendall Fuller, Montae Nicholson Named To Pro Football Focus' Week 3 Team Of The Week

Posted Sep 27, 2017

Both Redskins defensive backs logged first half interceptions in Washington's dominating defensive performance over the Raiders.

After Washington’s defense brought Oakland’s offense to a screeching halt Sunday night, it was only inevitable that some of the stars in the Redskins’ 27-10 victory would earn some recognition from NFL analysts.

Sure enough, Pro Football Focus named two members of the Redskins' secondary to its Week 3 Team of the Week.

Safety Montae Nicholson, who nabbed Oakland quarterback Derek Carr’s first interception of the season, earned himself a spot on the list. PFF gave Nicholson a grade of 88.6, crediting his stingy coverage of the Raiders’ receivers to Washington’s early lead. None of Carr’s passes were completed when thrown in Nicholson’s direction.

“He was also in close coverage numerous other times in the game, forcing an overthrow on another deep pass, as well as forcing the ball out on a third as Michael Crabtree tried to go up to bring it in. Nicholson also notched a pressure on the blitz,” PFF writer Sam Monson said.

Cornerback Kendall Fuller also earned a selection on the Team of the Week, scoring a 90.1 for his work in the secondary.

“Thrown at four times, Fuller allowed just two catches for 17 yards and intercepted a pass against Derek Carr and the high-flying Oakland Raiders offense,” Monson said. “He spent the majority of his time covering Seth Roberts, who was the receiver that caught the two passes he did surrender. Fuller also forced a fumble on Roberts after he caught one of the two passes.”

Fuller earned the fourth highest grade of defenders on the list and was a major player in bringing that high-flying offense back down to earth.

Kansas City’s Kareem Hunt was named as PFF’s running back of the week. Washington’s defense will face Hunt and the rest of the Chiefs' offense Oct. 2 on Monday Night Football.
