Fox Sports: Josh Doctson Primed For Breakout In 2017

Posted Feb 16, 2017

Fox Sports listed 10 players from the 2016 NFL Draft class that they feel are set to take off during the 2017 season, and Redskins wide receiver Josh Doctson is one of them.

There was so much excitement surrounding wide receiver Josh Doctson once the Redskins selected him with the 22nd pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

The numbers and game film Doctson compiled when he was at TCU was simply astounding, and the fact that Doctson could’ve possibly made that kind of impact in Washington’s offense last season had everyone in the organization – and Redskins fans, too – salivating.

Unfortunately, Doctson was unable to stay healthy enough to complete the season, appearing in just two games, but the hope is that Doctson bounces back in a big way, and makes some huge contributions during the 2017 season.

One person who believes Doctson is set for a big sophomore season is Fox Sports’ Cameron DaSilva, who put together a list of the 10 players from the 2016 NFL Draft class he feels are primed for an explosion this year, with one of those players being Doctson.

DaSilva had this to say about Doctson:

“[Doctson] was one of the most physically gifted receivers in the draft and showed great potential leading up to his rookie year,” DaSilva said.

“Next season, if he remains healthy, he’ll have a Michael Thomas-type impact and become a stud,” DaSilva said. “With DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garçon both in danger of leaving, Doctson will quickly be elevated from backup to starter. That’s a good thing because he has the size and makeup of a No. 1 receiver.

“The Redskins love to throw the ball, too, so he’s going to get plenty of looks on offense,” DaSilva added. “Don’t be surprised to see him become the best receiver from the 2016 class.”

Obviously, Doctson would’ve loved to have played in every game last season, and have caught more than two passes, but that wasn’t the case.

When looking back on his rookie season, Doctson could’ve let it affect him in any number of ways, but he chose to take the high road in his thought process.

“I’m just going to take the positives out of the whole negative and just run with it and just know that next year, you know I did get my feet wet a little bit, I know what it feels like to be out there, catch a football and stuff like that,” Doctson said. “I’ll just take that and move that momentum for next year.”
