Focused On The First-Years: Jonathan Allen Among Best Rookie Linemen

Posted Nov 10, 2017

Pro Football Focus names Allen to mid-season all-rookie team, the only Redskins rookie to earn a spot on the list.

Halfway through the season, members of the 2017 rookie class have begun to distinguish themselves above the rest. Pro Football Focus released its mid-season all-rookie team for 2017, highlighting the cream of the crop of the NFL’s youngest draft class.

Redskins defensive lineman Jonathan Allen was named as one of PFF’s top rookie interior linemen with an overall grade of 81.3. Allen’s pass-rushing productivity ranked second among NFL lineman in a 3-4 system. PFF cited Allen as the rookie leader of interior linemen in sacks (3), quarterback hits (3) and hurries (10).

Allen’s five run stops is tied for first among 3-4 rookie defensive ends as well.

Allen earned the spot on the all-rookie team despite being put on Injured Reserve after suffering a Lisfranc injury in his left foot three weeks ago. Allen’s last time on the field was in Week 6 in the Redskins’ 26-24 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

Other notable rookies made the cut, including Kansas City’s running back Kareem Hunt and New York’s tight end Evan Engram. Dalvin Tomlinson of the Giants also made the list as PFF's other favorite interior lineman. Cleveland’s Myles Garrett and Cincinnati’s Carl Lawson were named as the best rookie edge rushers.
