Like the rest of his teammates who suffered injuries in 2016, Redskins linebacker
Compton injured his PCL against the Eagles last December, the first real knee injury he had experienced in his career. While he returned to the field for the last two games of the regular season, he said Thursday that his knee, along with some of his other bumps and bruises, are healing and strengthening well.
Compton is due to become a restricted free agent, and the linebacker said the ball was in the team’s court in terms of starting negotiations.
“If they go right to first refusal, I might be able to get shopped around and then they’ll have the ability to match whatever offer’s out there,” Compton said. “Or they could tender me at a higher round or offer me an extension. We’ll hope for the best but we’ll see what happens. I feel good about everything. Those aren’t my decisions to make, all I know is I can control what I can control.”
As far as his general excitement, Compton is looking forward to working under new defensive coordinator Greg Manusky. He’s also excited to get back to spring workouts for another reason.
Last week, Fanatics.com released an article with a list of the most attractive NFL players. Compton was voted the fifth most attractive in the NFL, a distinction he made sure to promote on social media and can’t wait to share with his teammates in person.
“I started laughing right away because I couldn’t wait to let my teammates know about,” Compton said. “Immediately, I couldn’t wait to put it in my group chat and just laugh about it because it was pretty funny. Because guys talk about things like that all the time, like ‘Hey what would you rate yourself?’ or ‘So and so’s better looking, no I’m better looking.’ Now, there’s documentation out there. I don’t make the rules. I just sit back, receive the information and now I get to just have fun with it.”
Compton then relayed a conversation he had with fellow linebacker and roommate during the season,
“Bates commented you have a face only a mother could love, because people think me and Bates are like brothers because we look alike,” Compton said. “So I called him up, I asked him how he’s doing, because he had the ACL injury and I’m like, ‘Who would have thought that I was the better looking brother out of us?’ He’s laughing, he’s like, ‘Bro you’re still riding that wave?” I’m like, ‘Dude, just let me have a moment.’ I might have to put it on my Twitter bio.”
