LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation, in partnership with Redskins Long Snapper Nick Sundberg, will announce the launch of the Foundation’s newest initiative, the Loads of Love (LOL) laundry program on Monday, Nov. 6 at 10 a.m. at Magnolia Elementary School (8400 Nightingale Dr, Lanham, MD 20706). The Foundation has provided washers and dryers to schools in Prince George’s County as well as two youth shelters in Washington, D.C.

Sundberg, as well as Prince George’s County CEO Dr. Kevin Maxwell will be in attendance.

The LOL program was created for students experiencing homelessness or an unstable living situation to have laundry completed in school at no cost to them or their families. The goal is to remove a barrier for student attendance and participation in after school programs and sports by providing them a discreet solution to the challenge of having clean clothes. Studies have shown that placing washers and dryers in schools and offering laundry services to students can help boost attendance rates, class participation and interest in extra-curricular activities.

Sundberg approached the Redskins Charitable Foundation with the idea last fall, and donated $25,000 to kick-start the program.

“This cause [the LOL program] empowers me to want to help kids,” Sundberg said. “Everybody deserves a fair shot, but not everybody has it. So if we can help even one more kid graduate that wouldn’t have, or one more kid want to go to school that generally wouldn’t, then it was totally worth it.”

Sites participating in the pilot year of this initiative include Magnolia Elementary School (PGCPS), Valley View Elementary School (PGCPS), Andrew Jackson Academy (PGCPS), the Sasha Bruce House (D.C.) and Sasha Bruce Independent Living Facility (D.C.).

“We are truly grateful to Nick and Flor Sundberg for their generosity and commitment to helping children in our community. These initial Loads of Love sites are just the beginning and we are excited about expanding the program throughout the Redskins market area in the coming months and years,” said Jane Rodgers, Executive Director of the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation.

The launch of the program was also supported by JCPenney, John E. Kelly & Sons Electrical and O’Connor Plumbing.

Those interested in supporting the expansion of the LOL Program can make a donation to the Redskins Charitable Foundation at www.redskins.com/donate and designate Loads of Love Program in the remarks.  All donations are tax deductible.

Any questions regarding the Loads of Love program should be directed to Tish Carmona of Redskins Public Relations at carmonat@redskins.com or 703-726-7077.
