Sean Taylor To Be Inducted Into Miami Football Ring Of Honor

Posted Aug 12, 2017

The late Redskins great will be inducted along with four other Hurricanes players into the University of Miami's most prestigious football group.

The late, great Sean Taylor has earned another posthumous place in the annals of Miami football history.

The University of Miami announced on Friday that Taylor, along with Ed Reed, Warren Sapp, Michael Irvin and Ray Lewis, would be inducted into the Miami Football Ring of Honor, a veritable who’s who of prestigious athletes.

Indeed, this group is arguably one of the strongest the school has ever had inducted, the majority of which helped make up the Hurricane’s dynasty in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

As the official press release reads, Taylor led the nation in interceptions in his final season in 2003 and set a Miami record by returning three of those picks for scores.

Taylor, who was selected in the first round by the Redskins in the 2004 NFL Draft, was a consensus All-American in 2003, a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award and was named the 2003 BIG East Defensive Player of the Year. He ranks fifth at Miami in career interceptions (14) and second in interception return yards (306), won a national championship in 2001 and made two Pro Bowls with the Redskins before his tragic passing.

Taylor was already inducted into the Redskins Ring of Fame in Nov. 2008.

The induction ceremony will take place on Oct. 12 during Miami’s game vs. Georgia Tech.
