Redskins Sign Offensive Lineman John Kling

The Washington Redskins added another piece to their offensive line on Thursday afternoon, signing the 6-foot-8 John Kling to a deal.

The Washington Redskins announced they signed free agent offensive lineman John Kling on Thursday.

Kling, 6-foot-8, 320 pounds, originally signed with the Chicago Bears as a college free agent out of Buffalo last year, but was waived during the preseason. He signed with the AFL’s Philadelphia Soul earlier this year.

The Cheektowaga, N.Y., native appeared in 34 career games over four years at Buffalo. Kling played a career-high 12 games as a senior, guiding Buffalo to the conference’s fourth-ranked passing offense.

Kling was a part of an offensive line that allowed the second fewest sacks in the MAC (seven) and was integral to similar offensive successes in his previous two years starting.

Kling earned letters in football, track and field and wrestling in high school, where he was an all-league selection for three seasons.

Only two Buffalo offensive linemen -- Jamie Richard and Kristjan Sokoli -- have made it onto NFL rosters in the school’s history.

His addition now puts 12 offensive linemen on the Redskins' current roster.
