Redskins Sign Linebacker Chris Carter

The Washington Redskins added their fourth new defensive player in free agency on Thursday afternoon, signing veteran linebacker Chris Carter.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. 

Carter he has appeared in 62 regular season games, splitting his time between the Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Colts, Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens.

In those appearances, the Fresno State product has amassed 37 tackles with a pass defensed.

Carter made his NFL debut with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 25, 2011.

During the 2012 season, the 27-year-old started a career-high five games before being placed on Injured Reserve in November with an abdomen injury.

Carter's final season with the Steelers came in 2013, collecting four special teams tackles and a fumble forced.

The 6-foot-1, 245 pounder split time between the Colts and Bengals during the 2014 season, the Bengals and Ravens during the 2015 season and the Ravens and Colts in 2016.

Carter joins a linebacking corps that already features Ryan Kerrigan, Junior Galette, Trent Murphy and Preston Smith.

He was originally selected in the fifth round (No. 162 overall) in the 2011 NFL Draft out of Fresno State.
