Redskins Sign Keenan Reynolds To The Practice Squad

Posted Nov 8, 2017

The Redskins have added former Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds to the practice squad. Reynolds has since made the switch to wide receiver and could be a future option at returner.

The Redskins have added former Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds to the practice squad. Reynolds has since made the switch to wide receiver and could be a future option at returner.

The Washington Redskins on Wednesday announced the signing of wide receiver/returner Keenan Reynolds.

In a corresponding move, the team has released wide receiver Shakeir Ryan from the practice squad.

Reynolds, 23, entered the professional ranks with the Baltimore Ravens as a sixth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft out of the Naval Academy.

During his four seasons with Navy, Reynolds was a dual-threat quarterback, throwing for more than 4,000 passing yards and 31 touchdowns along with 4,559 rushing yards and 88 scores on the ground.

His 88 rushing touchdowns are an NCAA Division I record (both FBS and FCS) and his 4,559 rushing yards are most among college quarterbacks in history. Additionally, he holds school records for points responsible for (716), career wins (32) and career touchdown passes (31).

During his senior season in 2015, Reynolds finished fifth in Heisman voting along with earning All-AAC first-team honors, as he passes for 1,203 yards with eight touchdowns to only one interception along with 1,373 rushing yards and 24 rushing touchdowns.

Reynolds led the Midshipmen to their first 11-win season in school history, as Navy defeated Pittsburgh 44-28 in the Military Bowl to close out Reynold’s career. The 5-foot-10, 185 pounder finished the game with 270 yards of total offense and four touchdowns.

While Reynolds was too small to continue his time at quarterback in the NFL, his talent was still enough to be selected in the 2016 NFL Draft as a wide receiver.

Reynolds spent a majority of the 2016 season on the Ravens’ practice squad before being signed to the active roster for the final game of the year. He spent this past offseason in Baltimore as well before being waived during final cuts.

Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said the team wants to get a look at Reynolds for potential help in the future in the return game.
