Redskins Place Three On Injured Reserve, Sign Three To Active Roster

Posted Dec 12, 2017

Tight end Jordan Reed is among three players the Redskins placed on Injured Reserve Tuesday, ending a difficult season in which he caught just 27 passes for 211 yards.

Tight end Jordan Reed is among three players the Redskins placed on Injured Reserve Tuesday, ending a difficult season in which he caught just 27 passes for 211 yards.

The Washington Redskins announced on Tuesday that they have placed running back Byron Marshall, tight end Jordan Reed and linebacker Chris Carter on Injured Reserve.

In corresponding moves, the team signed running back Kapri Bibbs and linebackers Otha Peters and Pete Robertson to the active roster from the practice squad. Additionally, running back Dare Ogunbowale, linebacker Alex McCalister and safety Orion Stewart have been signed to the practice squad.

While Reed had missed the last six games with a hamstring injury, his placement on Injured Reserve ends a season in which he was plagued by injuries from the onset of training camp. Reed was originally placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list with a toe injury at the start of the team’s activities at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center in Richmond, Va.

Reed was activated in time for the start of the regular season, but appeared in just six games this season recording career lows in both receptions (27) and receiving yards (211).

The Pro Bowler continued to rehab his injured hamstring over the last month -- an issue that first arose in Week 8 -- as he tried to keep a positive mindset.

“Just looking forwards towards my goals and my dreams and focusing on that stuff and not just all of the negative going on right now,” Reed said last week of his mindset. “Also, just being appreciative of all the blessing that God blessed me with and my two daughters and my family, I get to see them every day. So, it’s still a blessing to wake up and be a part of the Redskins. I’m going to keep working hard and keep doing what I can do.”

In his absence, the Redskins have relied on Vernon Davis as the primary tight end with both Niles Paul and Jeremy Sprinkle providing contributions as well. Davis currently has 568 receiving yards and two touchdowns on the season while Sprinkle’s first career catch against the New Orleans Saints in Week 11 went for a touchdown.

Carter and Marshall, meanwhile, suffered injuries in Sunday’s 30-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.

Carter suffered a fractured fibula in the fourth quarter on punt coverage. In 13 games this season, the stalwart on special teams recorded six tackles – third most on the team.

As for Marshall, he suffered a hamstring injury on a kickoff return in the first half against the Chargers.

Signed to Washington’s active roster off the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad last month, Marshall appeared in four games for the Redskins recording nine attempts for 32 yards along with six receptions for 36 yards. Additionally, he returned four kickoffs for 89 yards.

In his place on the active roster, the Redskins have brought up Bibbs who was signed late last month to the practice squad.

The 24-year-old appeared in 12 regular season games with the Denver Broncos in 2016, recording 26 carries for 129 yards along with two receptions for 75 yards and a receiving touchdown.

Peters was first signed to Washington’s practice squad on Nov. 13, after originally entering the NFL as a college free agent signing for the Seattle Seahawks.

In 25 career games at Louisiana at Lafayette, the six-foot, 238 pounder recorded 162 tackles with two sacks.

As for Robertson, he rejoins Washington’s active roster after making his regular season debut against the New York Giants on Thanksgiving.
