Redskins Hold The No. 13 Pick In The 2018 NFL Draft

Posted Jan 2, 2018

As the Washington Redskins begin their preparations for the 2018 season, the team holds the No. 13-overall pick in this year's NFL Draft. The team's other selection spots will be determined at a later date.

As the Washington Redskins begin their preparations for the 2018 season, the team holds the No. 13-overall pick in this year's NFL Draft. The team's other selection spots will be determined at a later date.

In late April, the 2018 NFL Draft will take place in Arlington, Texas, and the Washington Redskins will hold the No. 13-overall pick.

While the Redskins have begun evaluations of the current roster and the players set to become free agents once the league calendar turns, the draft process will soon heat up for Washington.

The Redskins have had success with players picked in the first round of recent NFL Drafts, as all three of Washington’s Pro Bowlers this year were taken in the first round of their respective drafts.

Left tackle Trent Williams was recently selected to his sixth straight Pro Bowler after the Redskins selected the Oklahoma product with the No. 4-overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.

The next year, Washington went with a defensive selection in the form of Ryan Kerrigan out of Purdue. Kerrigan was named to his third Pro Bowl this season after the 29-year-old capped off a campaign in which he registered 13 sacks, tied for fourth-most in the NFL.

Kerrigan on Sunday became the first player in Redskins history to start all 16 games in each of his first seven NFL seasons.

He joins Brandon Carr, Deon Grant, James Laurinaitis, Tony Parrish and Patrick Peterson as the only defensive players in the NFL to accomplish the feat since the adoption of the 16-game schedule in 1978.

Then in 2015, the Redskins made another offensive line selection with Brandon Scherff out of Iowa. The 6-foot-5, 319 pounder has been named to two straight Pro Bowls, becoming  the first Redskins interior lineman to earn multiple Pro Bowl selections since Pro Football Hall of Fame guard Russ Grimm’s streak of four consecutive Pro Bowl honors from 1983-86.

The Redskins have twice selected at the 13th-overall spot. In recent drafts, Deshaun Watson, Laremy Tunsil, Andrus Peat, Aaron Donald and Sheldon Richardson have been picked at No. 13 in the last five drafts.

Donald, of course, is the most notable name of the group, as he has been selected to the Pro Bowl every year he has been in the NFL and was named 2014 Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Pro Football Hall of Famers Kellen Winslow and Franco Harris were also taken at No. 13 in their respective drafts.

The selection order for Rounds 2-7 will be determined at a later date.
