New Addition Stacy McGee Hopes To Build More History In D.C.

Posted Mar 13, 2017

Coming to the Washington Redskins after four seasons with the Oakland Raiders, new defensive lineman Stacy McGee is ready to make an impact in tough NFC East battles.

Coming to the Washington Redskins after four seasons with the Oakland Raiders, new defensive lineman Stacy McGee is ready to make an impact in tough NFC East battles.

It didn't take long for Stacy McGee to find a new NFL home.

After spending his first four years in the NFL as a member of the Oakland Raiders, McGee joined the Washington Redskins last Friday as one of four free agents to sign that day.

“I’m excited to be here and happy for the opportunity," McGee said on "Redskins Nation." "It went pretty well and couldn’t ask for a better deal.”

“It means a lot going from one legacy to another organization that has a great history. To be a part of that and hopefully to build more history and be something great as well.

For his career, the 6-foot-3, 308 pounder has 44 tackles and three sacks. The 27-year-old had 17 tackles along with a career-high 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in his 2016 campaign.

Going from the AFC West to the NFC East is a challenge that McGee is looking forward to and is “confident about anybody we play against.”

Spending all that time in the Bay area also helped McGee become familiar with new defensive line coach Jim Tomsula and knows what is expected of him.

“I like Tomsula," McGee said. "He brings a lot of energy and demands greatness from his players. He wants us to grind and be everything that we can be.”

With Chris Baker leaving in free agency and other defensive linemen remain unsigned; McGee along with the other new addition, Terrell McClain, can help improve a unit that was inconsistent in 2016.

McGee is a versatile lineman that hopes to come in and contribute anyway that he can and is ready to help the Redskins defense get back on top.

“I’m not afraid of a challenge," McGee said. "I’m confident about anybody we play against. It’s just me getting in there to handle my business, doing the right technique, and playing hard.”
