Meet The Washington Redskins' Scouting Staff

Posted Feb 22, 2018

As the Washington Redskins prepare to modify the roster heading into the 2018 season, here's a look at the team's scouting staff helping construct the best group of players.

As the Washington Redskins prepare to modify the roster heading into the 2018 season, here's a look at the team's scouting staff helping construct the best group of players.

Although the public eye doesn’t turn to the free agency period and NFL Draft until this time of the year, scouts for all 32 NFL teams have been spending the last few months spread throughout the country looking for top talent in both the professional and collegiate ranks to potentially join their squads.

Over the next few days, Voice of the Redskins Larry Michael will be meeting with members of Washington’s scouting staff to provide glimpses of their work and upbringings.

Up first in the Meet The Scouts series is Director of College Personnel Kyle Smith. Smith is in his first year in the position after spending six seasons as an area scout for the organization.

Next is Senior Personnel Executive Scott Campbell.

2017 marked Campbell's 17th season with the Redskins and the first in his current position. In 2001, he origninally joined the organization as the Director of College Scouting.

Roger Terry, meanwhile, is in nearing the completion of his first season as an area scout.

Terry joined Washington's staff in 2015 after previous stops at Ohio State University, the University of Kentucky and Tennessee State University.

As for Tim Gribble, he's been with the Redskins for 16 seasons now, first as Pro Personnel Assistant before spending 11 years as an area scout.

2017 marked his first season as the Assistant Director of College Scouting, where he assists Smith and the Redskins' personnel staff by providing evaluations of collegiate talent at the national level.

As for Cole Spencer, he’s risen through Washington’s scouting ranks after starting out as an intern.

During the 2017 season, Spencer scouted talent in the southeast region including players from schools like Alabama and Florida State.

Among the scouts to join Washington’s staff this past season was Paul Skansi, a former NFL wide receiver who transitioned into the coaching ranks before becoming a scout.

Skansi highlighted some of the attributes he looks for in prospects and his general thoughts on the wide receivers in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Like Spencer, Chuck Cook comes from a football family as his father was an NFL scout for more than 30 years.

During the 2017 season, Cook analyzed prospects from the Midwest region including those that attended schools in Michigan, Indiana and West Virginia among other states.

Next up is Matt Evans, who manned scouting efforts in the Northeast region of the country during the 2017 season.

Evans first joined the Redskins in 2014 as a player personnel assistant.

David Whittington has been with the Redskins for nine seasons now, and currently scouts talent in places like Texas and Mississippi.

Whittington discusses how he analyzes individual talent in spread systems.
