Get To Know New Redskins Defensive Lineman Montori Hughes

Posted Jan 9, 2018

The Redskins last week added a veteran defensive lineman on a Reserve/Future contract, signing Montori Hughes.

The Redskins last week added a veteran defensive lineman on a Reserve/Future contract, signing 27-year-old Montori Hughes.

As the Washington Redskins continued to quietly add to the roster last week with Reserve/Future signings, the team came to an agreement with defensive lineman Montori Hughes.

Hughes, 27, has appeared in 25 career games with the Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants, recording 23 tackles with one pass defensed.

After joining the Colts as a fifth-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft out of Tennessee-Martin, he appeared in four games as a rookie recording six tackles. In 2014, he recorded career highs in games appeared in (12) and tackles (11) along with one pass defensed. He played in all three playoff games with the Colts that postseason, recording four tackles.

During the 2015 and 2016 seasons, Hughes played for the Giants before signing with the Kansas City Chiefs last offseason.

Prior to his professional career, Hughes split time between the University of Tennessee and Tennessee-Martin. He appeared in 25 games with the Volunteers between the 2009-10 seasons before transferring.

With the Skyhawks, Martin appeared in 22 games (18 starts) and recorded 72 tackles with five sacks. He was an All-Ohio Valley Conference first-team selection as a senior.

Hughes’ signing was Washington’s 13th Reserve/Future signing, as the defensive lineman joins quarterback Stephen Morris, tight end Chris Bazile, linebacker Cassanova McKinzy and defensive back James Sample as new faces for the Redskins.

Other Redskins that have signed with Washington as Reserve/Future additions in years past include fellow defensive linemen Ziggy Hood and Phil Taylor.

Hood has appeared in 31 games with the Redskins over the last two seasons, recording 58 tackles with three passes defensed, 1.5 sacks and one fumble forced.
