E.J. Bibbs Excited To Get Another Shot In Washington

Posted Jul 30, 2017

Signed on the first day of training camp to bolster the tight end depth, E.J. Bibbs knows he has little room for error in his opportunity to earn his spot on the roster.

Signed on the first day of training camp to bolster the tight end depth, E.J. Bibbs knows he has little room for error in his opportunity to earn his spot on the roster.

While the Washington Redskins already have considerable depth at the tight end position, the group was added to on Thursday with the addition of free agent signing E.J. Bibbs.

With Jordan Reed currently sidelined with a toe injury and Derek Carrier not participating in Friday’s session with an ankle sprain, the addition of Bibbs give Washington another option to explore at the position.

The 25-year-old is a two-year veteran in the NFL but hasn’t logged time on the field since 2015 with the Cleveland Browns. With hopes of making a return to field this season with the Redskins, Bibbs said he is not feeling the pressure to prove himself.

“It feels great,” Bibbs told Redskins.com of being back on the field. “I’m just happy to be back and I’m just ready to get back to work."

As the newest Redskins tight end, Bibbs understands he has a pretty steep learning curve ahead of him over the next few weeks between training camp and the preseason slate. But he’s ready to turn heads any time he gets his number called.

“You got to prove yourself anywhere else you go, so I’m just excited for the opportunity,” Bibbs added.

The Chicago native spent most of his college career playing for Iowa State.

He played 22 career games, accumulating a total of 84 career receptions for 844 yards and 10 touchdowns.

During his senior season, he earned first-team All-Big 12 honors and led all Power 5 conference tight ends recording eight touchdown receptions per game in which tied him for fourth in Iowa State’s history.

He originally was signed by the Browns as an undrafted free agent in May 2015.

He appeared in seven games and was the only undrafted free agent to stay on the active roster for all 17 weeks. Bibbs caught his first NFL pass from Austin Davis for a reception of seven yards against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Bibbs is reunited with quarterbacks coach Kevin O’Connell and wide receiver Terrelle Pryor Sr. after having worked with them in Cleveland.

He joins Vernon Davis, Niles Paul, Derek Carrier, Manasseh Garner and rookie tight end Jeremy Sprinkle along with Reed on the roster.
