2018 Mock Drafts: James Washington To The Redskins?

Posted Jan 19, 2018

While the 6-foot-2 Josh Doctson provides the Redskins a big red zone threat, ProFootballFocus.com’s Steve Palazzolo thinks the Redskins could use a speedster to complement him with a first round selection.

While the 6-foot-2 Josh Doctson provides the Redskins a big red zone threat, ProFootballFocus.com’s Steve Palazzolo thinks the Redskins could use a speedster to complement him with a first round selection.

Will the Washington Redskins look to add some speed to their offense in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft?

In his second mock draft of the year, ProFootballFocus.com’s Steve Palazzolo believes the Redskins will select speedy Oklahoma State wide receiver James Washington with the No. 13-overall pick.

“Washington adds a deep-play threat after leading the nation with 715 yards on deep (20-plus yard) passes,” Palazzolo writes. “He has the speed and route-running to be the first receiver off the board in a wide receiver class with no clear favorite at the top.”

In four seasons at Oklahoma State, Washington recorded 226 receptions for 4,472 yards and 39 touchdowns along with nine carries for 70 yards and one touchdown.

During his freshman season in 2014, Washington led the Cowboys in touchdown receptions (six) while becoming just the fourth player in school history to tally a 100-receiving game as a freshman as he hauled in four catches for 114 yards and one touchdown against Baylor.

Washington’s sophomore season was highlighted by three consecutive 100-yard games which included a four-catch, 200-yard day against Texas Tech in which two of his receptions went for touchdowns.

One week later against TCU, the Stamford, Texas, native recorded five receptions for 184 yards and three touchdowns. Washington was named a second-team All-Big 12 selection as he led the nation in 70-plus-yard receptions and averaged more than 20 yards per reception.

As a junior, Washington was named a first-team all-conference selection by both The Associated Press and by Big 12 coaches, as he recorded 71 receptions for 1,380 yards and 10 touchdowns. In a 45-38 victory over Pittsburgh, the six-foot, 205 pounder recorded nine receptions for a career-high 296 yards.

In a 38-8 victory over Colorado in the Valero Alamo Bowl, Washington was named the game’s MVP as he recorded nine receptions for 171 yards and one touchdown.

During his senior season, Washington recorded career highs across the board, as he caught 74 passes for 1,549 yards and 13 touchdowns while averaging nearly 21 yards per reception. Washington had nine games with at least 100 yards while logging a touchdown reception in 10 games.

For his efforts, Washington was one of 14 unanimous All-American selections.

Washington will participate in the 2018 Reese’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.
