Ricky Jean Francois Helps Kids Beat The Heat

Once the final horn sounded on Sunday, and the Redskins defensive linemen finished their last meeting for the day on the practice field, defensive end Ricky Jean Francois quickly moved to the Kona Ice truck that was parked in the kid's playground area at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center in Richmond, Va.

Jean Francois moved with a purpose, because he had a lot of kids – more than 1,000 to be exact – that were waiting for him to serve them free shaved ice with flavored toppings.

It was another scorcher on Sunday in Richmond, so Jean Francois, with some much needed assistance from servers inside the truck, got every single kid within the vicinity of that truck some shaved ice, and helped them beat the heat, while, at the same time, having some fun with them.

"[It's] just for the kids, putting a smile on their face[s], [and them] be affected by an NFL player," Jean Francois said. "No NFL player took the time out to be able to give you ice cream, to be able to kick it with you, laugh with you, have fun with you, and give you autographs. That's every kid's dream, especially when you come into an NFL training camp."

One of Jean Francois' running mates, defensive end Corey Crawford, stopped by the Kona Ice truck to get some shaved ice, take some pictures with the kids and sign some autographs.

Crawford says he enjoyed spending time with the families at training camp. For him, it's just a small token of his appreciation for the people who give him, and the team, so much love and support.

"It makes me feel good, makes me feel good on the inside, knowing that [there's] still little people out here that [are] looking up to you," Crawford said. "It's always just a good feeling to give back, and do something nice for a young kid."
