How does Redskins fan and Oklahoma Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant celebrate getting cleared to play in the upcoming NBA season? He goes to a Redskins game.

“I’m excited, I can’t wait to play again,” Durant said on the sideline before the Redskins took on the Giants at MetLife Stadium Thursday night. “Just watching these great athletes out here, it makes me really appreciate what I do as well."

After suffering a foot injury throughout last season, Durant was officially cleared to suit up in preparation for the NBA season. The timing aligned perfectly with the gift of Thursday Night Football.

Durant, dressed in his personalized no. 35 burgundy jersey and team beanie, grew up in Washington, D.C., and credits his father for converting him to a Redskins fan. He attended last year’s home opener at FedExField last season and traveled to Lambeau Field in 2013 when the Redskins visited the Packers.

“I came up for this one. The season’s about to start. Always want to catch a Skins game, so I decided this is the best place to come to watch the game,” Durant said.

In his towering 6-foot-9 frame, Durant threw a few passes along the sideline and met with several fan groups, because Durant is a big deal in sports in case you forgot.

That doesn’t mean he’s a fan from afar. Durant takes his Redskins seriously, which means he was extremely excited watching last Sunday’s game against the Rams and ready for a strong season.

“Last week was great to watch,” Durant said. “The first week was kind of a heart breaking loss to me. We played so well, and then to lose it was tough, but I’m a fan win lose or draw, man. It was just great to see the guys out there, great to see D-Hall back. I was excited about that. Looking forward to tonight.”

With a busy schedule impending, Durant still manages to keep up with the storylines and players in his spare time.

“I follow a couple of Instagram accounts, cool Instagram accounts that show a lot of Instagram fans, ESPN of course,” he said. “And as much as I can, I try to watch the guys.”
