Worthington, White Signed To Bolster Defense

Posted Sep 18, 2012

Redskins announced today that the team has signed DE Doug Worthington and OLB Markus White to its active roster to replace Carriker and Orakpo.

The Redskins announced today that the team has signed defensive end Doug Worthington to its active roster from the team’s practice squad and signed linebacker Markus White to its active roster from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ practice squad.

The Redskins also signed defensive lineman Dominique Hamilton to their practice squad.

In corresponding move, the team placed defensive end Adam Carriker and linebacker Brian Orakpo on the Reserve/Injured list.

Worthington (6-5, 311) joined the Redskins via waiver claim from Tampa Bay on Aug. 6, 2011. He spent the majority of the 2011 season on the Redskins’ practice squad.

He was promoted to the active roster on Dec. 20, 2011 and was inactive in the team’s final two games. He signed to the Redskins’ practice squad this season on Sept. 3, 2012.

White (6-4, 264) was originally drafted by the Redskins out of Florida State in the seventh round (224th overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft. He spent all of the 2011 season on the Redskins’ active roster, appearing in two games.

He was waived by the Redskins on Aug. 31, 2012, and signed to the Buccaneers’ practice squad on Sept. 3.

Hamilton (6-5, 315) entered the NFL as a college free agent with the Oakland Raiders on May 11, 2012. He played collegiately at Missouri, where he appeared in 46 career games with 32 starts.

He amassed 140 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks in his career, earning All-Big 12 honors from conference media in his senior season in 2011.

Carriker (6-6, 305) was in his sixth NFL season and had appeared in 34 games with 33 starts since joining the Redskins via trade prior to the 2010 season.

The 28-year-old defensive end posted a career-high 5.5 sacks last season.

Orakpo (6-4, 257) was in his fourth NFL season. The 26-year-old linebacker has appeared in 49 games with 49 starts for the Redskins since being selected by the team in the first round (13th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft.

Including a sack registered this past weekend, Orakpo has 29.5 career sacks.
