Wilson Ready To 'Ball' Against Former Team

Posted Jan 3, 2013

Redskins CB Josh Wilson played for Seattle the last time the Redskins met the Seahawks in the playoffs. Hear what he's looking forward to most this Sunday.

An interception against the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday Night capped off a career year for Josh Wilson, who returned to his hometown team in 2011.

Wilson finished the season with career highs in tackles (74) and tied career highs in sacks (two) and forced fumbles (three).

Among Redskins defensive backs, he was first in passes defensed, forced fumbles and defensive touchdowns (one), leading all Redskins in fumble recoveries (two).

While Wilson could take credit for his individual success, he was much happier to share the limelight with the rest of the secondary and defense as a whole.

"We just went out there and balled," he said in the locker room after Sunday's game. "We’ve been playing like this for the last seven weeks. We knew we had to win eleven in a row to be able to accomplish our goal and we’re doing it.

"We’ve got God on our side right now and we’re going to keep riding this, and pray we make it all the way to the Championship."

Eleven-straight wins from the Redskins' bye week would crown the team Super Bowl Champions, but Wilson is focused on winning one game at a time--just like the team has for two months.

Before beating the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 18, the Redskins hadn't won a game in more than a month.

Bye week adjustments to the defensive scheme and assignments have bolstered the secondary and the defense as a whole.  After allowing 27.6 points per game before the bye week, the defense yielded only 20 points per game after.

"We felt like this in the beginning, even when we had some games that didn’t go our way we still were able to keep our head and take this to the next level," he explained. "Everybody knew that every play was going to make a difference in these games, and whoever made the most was going to win.

"Thank God we made the most plays. It's been great."

On Sunday, the Redskins will host Seattle Seahawks, the team that selected Wilson in the second round (55th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft.

As a rookie, Wilson was part of squad that hosted and knocked off the Redskins 35-14 in the first round of the playoffs. Wilson accounted for only two tackles in the game, but took a lot away from the experience.

Last season, in his return to the great northwest, Wilson had three tackles and two passes defensed against his former team. This time around, the Seahawks are just another obstacle in the path through the playoffs.

"We’ve been in this [playoff mindset] for a long time, where we couldn’t lose a game," he said. "We’re going to go ahead and keep this thing at a high level. As a defense right now we are clicking.

"We’re on to the next one. All that matters is nobody remembers 3-6 anymore. You go to the playoffs, we’re in and now everybody has a chance."
