Washington Redskins Morning Clips: 7/2

Posted Jul 2, 2013

A morning roundup of what the local and national media have to say about the Washington Redskins on Tuesday, July 2, 2013.

A morning roundup of what the local and national media have to say about the Washington Redskins on Tuesday, July 2, 2013.

--The Washington Redskins are reportedly joining half the NFL in not having rookies report early for training camp. The 2013 Redskins rookies will report with the rest of the team on July 24, 2013.

--Former Washington Redskins players Jason Campbell and Clinton Portis have both come out to discuss how they suffered multiple concussions during their playing days. Standards for concussion analysis and the football culture around head injuries has changed dramatically in the last three seasons.

--Tuesday morning discussion topic: are you happy with the Redskins offensive line? The Redskins return each of the five starting members from the line last year, in addition to quality veteran depth to compete for playing time.

--Now tht the full "Top 100 Players of 2013" have been announced, it is known that the Washington Redskins will face eight of the top-12 players announced. The only four that they will not face are Tom Brady, Drew Brees, J.J. Watt and Arian Foster.

--With training camp a little over three weeks away, here is a look at the training camp competition surrounding the left outside linebacker position.

--Are there big changes coming on offense this season? Two local reporters chime in but agree that there likely will not be major changes.

--Redskins kicker Kai Forbath was an overnight sensation last season, but lacked the ideal leg strength to consistently force touchbacks on kickoff. Should the Redskins consider carrying a kickoff specialist to compensate?

--Are the Redskins under pressure to succeed in 2013? One local reporter says yes, but one national reporter says that's not so.

--Will Robert Griffin III begin training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list? Is there a can't-miss element of training camp? These answers and more in this week's mailbag.

--Redskins right tackle Tyler Polumbus has been retained specifically for right tackle this offseason, the first time in his career that he has been able to focus on one position.

--Week 1 revisited: a look back at the 2012 Redskins' Week 1 victory over the New Orleans Saints.

--One local columnist argues that the newest NFL bag policies are one more strike against the game day stadium experience.

--The reported Redskins' focus group has allegedly asked fans about their feelings on a Redskins game held at RFK Stadium in downtown Washington, D.C.

--Conservative icon Rush Limbaugh makes the argument that those opposed to the Redskins' name are pushing a political agenda.

--What does Redskins running back Alfred Morris have as an encore for Year 2? Most fantasy leagues have him ranked as the ninth-best running back despite him finishing second in the NFL for rushing last season. Why? It may boil down to the Mike Shanahan Factor.

--Redskins receiver Donte' Stallworth has been an outspoken proponent of the LBGT community over the last few years, but admits that it wasn't always the case. He tells one local reporter that he had an about-face on his homophobic beliefs.
