--One reporter's take on Mike Shanahan’s firing and why the franchise has struggled so much this year. With a 3-13 finish, this years record was the worst in the last 22 years.

--A look back at former Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan’s more comedic moments spanning his four years in Washington.

--Redskins General Manager Bruce Allen addressed the media yesterday and assured that he will take an extensive search for a new head coach and said, “I think coming into this environment, knowing that there is a nucleus, I think that it’ll be a very attractive position to coaches.”

--Mike Shanahan’s final words to the media where he thanked the owner, players and fans for his time as the Redskins head coach. Shanahan said, “You take a look at the opportunities that (are) given to you as a head football coach and your staff, you can’t feel better.” 

--Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon discussed the firing of former head coach Mike Shanahan on Kornheiser’s radio show on ESPN 980. Wilbon told Kornheiser the type of coach the Redskins should hire and said, “I might even entail that---hiring a guy who has never been a (head) coach. Not a celebrity.”

--Redskins players tweet about former coach Mike Shanahan and express their feelings of gratitude and disappointment that he is no longer with the team.

--While players were cleaning out their locker room, some Redskins players commented on Mike Shanahan and their favorite memories of their former coach. Quarterback Kirk Cousins said, “I just always enjoyed his demeanor. Always in control and always classy.”

--Former Redskins tight end Chris Cooley comments on the vacant Redskins coaching position and the qualities the new head coach should possess. Cooley said, “I want a guy that can evolve, I want a guy that can adapt, I want a guy that understands players.”

--After being fired on Monday, Mike Shanahan will reportedly receive the full $7 million owed to him next season. Next year would have been his last under his contract which was a five-year deal that began in 2010.

--Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski comments on Mike Shanahan’s firing and owner Dan Snyder’s involvement with the team. Jaworski praised Snyder and General Manager Bruce Allen saying, “You know, the owner’s done a great job. Dan Snyder, as an owner is terrific.”

--A look at which members of the Redskins coaching staff remained after Monday. Former head coach Mike Shanahan and 10 of his assistants were released but six members of his staff remain including defensive coordinator Jim Haslett.

--Quarterback Robert Griffin III thanked Mike Shanahan and his staff on Monday. Although Griffin struggled this season, it was Shanahan and his staff that helped Griffin have one of the best rookie seasons in NFL history for a quarterback.
