A morning roundup of what the local and national media have to say about the Washington Redskins on Tuesday, December 3, 2013.

--The NFL’s vice president of officiating Dean Blandino said in a written statement that play should have been stopped before the third down play was snapped. Blandino said, “This should have occurred regardless of the fact that Washington had no timeouts and it was inside two minutes.”

--Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan defends his players despite three unsportsmanlike conduct penalties during the Redskins-Giants game on Sunday night. When talking about wide receiver Pierre Garcon’s unsportsmanlike penalty he said, “If I get everybody playing like him, you won’t need coaches.”

--With the Redskins eliminated from the playoffs, head coach Mike Shanahan will not play younger players for evaluation sake. Offensive linemen Tom Compton, Adam Gettis and Josh LeRibeus have seen little action this season.

--Redskins linebacker London Fletcher suffered a sprained left ankle during Sunday’s game vs. the Giants. Head coach Mike Shanahan provided no details on Monday as to the severity of the sprain and if Fletcher’s 252 regular season start streak is at risk.

--One writer looks at the Redskins-Giants game and how different it would have looked if quarterback Robert Griffin III was not playing. Griffin had a good game, passing for over 200 yards, a touchdown and had a quarterback rating of 102.

--Former NFL head coach Tony Dungy assesses quarterback Robert Griffin III and how he has handled his celebrity status across the country. Dungy said on owner Daniel Snyder, “He tries to create the celebrity status.”

--Longtime radio analyst commented on Mike Shanahan’s job security as Shanahan enters his last year of his contract in the 2014 season. This will be Shanahan’s third losing season out of four years in Washington.

--NBC Sunday Night Football analyst Cris Collinsworth spoke about how head coach Mike Shanahan and the Redskins are headed in the right direction and praised their offense during the Sunday Night Football broadcast.

--A breakdown of the Redskins wide receivers performance in the Redskins-Giants game including former Redskins player Shawn Springs and his opinion of wide receiver Pierre Garcon. Springs said, “Pierre Garcon’s a good receiver. He’s a No.2 guy to me.”

--A recap of the Redskins 24-17 loss to the Giants on Sunday night including how the Redskins lost despite jumping out to a 14 point lead, having more total yards, more time of possession and more rushing yards than the Giants.

--An analysis of Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III by  quarterback guru Terry Shea who helped Griffin prepare for the NFL before the draft. Griffin had a good first half vs. the Giants but struggled in the second half. Griffin completed only 8 of 15 throws compared to the first half where he went 16 of 17.

--A look at injuries to tight end Jordan Reed and Reed Doughty both who are battling concussion issues. Reed was set to play on Sunday but suffered a setback during pregame warm ups and Doughty sustained his second concussion of the season after a hit with Giants fullback John Conner.
