A morning roundup of what the local and national media have to say about the Washington Redskins on Friday, December 27, 2013.

--Highlights from both offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan and defensive coordinator Jim Haslett’s press conferences on Thursday and how both coordinators are looking at the positives despite the teams struggles this year.

--A look at the potential trade value of quarterback Kirk Cousins. Former NFL scout Louis Riddick thinks that Cousins could bring Washington a second round draft choice if traded.

--Redskins linebacker London Fletcher comments on all the controversial stories released on the team this year and said, “When you add other dynamics to the situation, that makes it more difficult.”

--How Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon is able to separate from coverage and set the new franchise record for receptions in a season this year.

--Rookie practice squad linebacker Will Compton will get a chance to play with the 53-man roster this week. Compton will suit up against the Giants due to a season ending injury to linebacker Nick Barnett.

--Linebacker Brian Orakpo missed practice yesterday due to a groin injury suffered against the Dallas Cowboys. Orakpo hasn’t been ruled out for Sunday’s game vs. the Giants and was limited in practice on Tuesday.

--Members of the Redskins coaching staff may face an uncertain future due to a disappointing 2013 season.

--5 questions the Redskins must answer before the Redskins-Giants game on Sunday including how will quarterback Kirk Cousins bounce back from a mediocre start vs. Dallas.

--How the Redskins plan to stay motivated for the last game of the season vs. the Giants. Redskins tight end Logan Paulsen said, “You’re playing for the visibility that you get every Sunday when you get out there.”

--Storylines Redskins fans should follow for the Redskins-Giants game on Sunday including what may happen to head coach Mike Shanahan immediately after the Redskins-Giants game.

--A look at potential NFL Draft prospects from the Poinsettia Bowl. Safety Jimmie Ward out of Northern Illinois could be a answer to the Redskins problems at that position as Ward possesses great coverage ability.

--Players to watch for from the Little Caesars Bowl between Pittsburgh and Bowling Green. ACC Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald could be a useful addition to the Redskins defense next year.

--Unfortunately for head coach Mike Shanahan a career milestone will have to wait until next season to be fulfilled. Shanahan needed five wins this season to tie former coach Bill Parcells for 10th place all-time in career regular season wins.

--Veteran receiver Santana Moss has not offered any insight as far as his plans for next year or even retirement. Moss said, “All I’m thinking about right now is the Giants.”

--Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan on how quarterback Robert Griffin III can adapt to new offenses and schemes. Shanahan said, “Robert’s going to be able to learn any system that someone gives him.”

--A detailed look at some statistics from the Redskins season thus far including how the Redskins only need 336 yards of total offense vs. the Giants to surpass 6,000 yards for the season. That would be the first time in franchise history the Redskins passed 6,000 yards of offense in consecutive seasons.
