Posted Dec 19, 2013

A morning roundup of what the local and national media have to say about the Washington Redskins on Thursday, December 19, 2013.

A morning roundup of what the local and national media have to say about the Washington Redskins on Thursday, December 19, 2013.

--Redskins linebacker London Fletcher is expected to retire at the end of this season. This is his 16th season in the NFL and will put an end to the longest active streak in the NFL with 255 consecutive games played.

--London Fletcher spoke to the media yesterday and showed his support of head coach Mike Shanahan and said, “As I look at the current situation, I think Coach Shanahan is definitely the right guy.”

--The Redskins claim former Denver Broncos center J.D. Walton from waivers. Walton was a third-round pick from Baylor in 2010 and played with quarterback Robert Griffin III at Baylor.

--An in depth look at the play calling for quarterbacks Kirk Cousins and Robert Griffin III. The reporter dismisses any thought that there are two different offenses for the two quarterbacks.

--Quarterback Robert Griffin III’s college teammates show their support of Griffin and his family as reports came out stating the Griffin’s father was creating a riff in the Redskins team.

--How Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins play in the final two games can make an impact on his future in the NFL as well as the Redskins franchise. Head coach Mike Shanahan admitted that with strong play Cousins could draw a first-round pick via trade.

--One reporter looks at London Fletchers many accomplishments during his 16 years in the NFL and describes how an undrafted player from a small college became one of the best linebackers to play the game.

--One reporter analyses the Redskins head coaching position and who might fill the role if Mike Shanahan is no longer with the team.

--What players and coaches said after learning that Redskins linebacker London Fletcher is planning to retire at the end of the season. Quarterback Robert Griffin III said, “I hope he’s not done, but he’s been a great teammate.”

--Rookie tight end Jordan Reed plans to see a concussion specialist today to asses his concussion symptoms. Reed remains the team’s second-leading receiver despite not playing since Nov. 17th.

--Redskins linebacker London Fletcher said he is “99 percent” sure he will retire after playing 16 seasons in the NFL. His teammates are still in awe of his durability and offensive lineman Trent Williams said, “He’s not human. I’ve said it to him before, he’s made of titanium or something.”

--With reports coming out about quarterback Robert Griffin III and his family, Redskins linebacker London Fletcher advises Griffin to exhale. Fletcher said, “This is a time for him to exhale, take a step back, and reevaluate different things.”

--Storylines to follow as the Redskins prepare to play the Cowboys on Sunday including, how the Redskins must cut back on turnovers. The Redskins have more than double the amount of turnovers they did last year with 29 but the Cowboys defense has only forced one turnover in the past two games.

--Redskins players Jordan Reed and Trent Williams did not practice on Wednesday. Reed is still suffering from concussion related issues and has missed the last four games.

--With Redskins linebacker London Fletcher suggesting retirement at the end of the season, one reporter looks at who could step in and fill his position. All signs point to linebacker Perry Riley Jr. who leads the team in tackles with 103.

--A matchup to watch for this Sunday is the Redskins defense vs. Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray. Murray has over 300 yards rushing and a touchdown in the past two games.

--Redskins fullback Darrel Young hurt his hamstring again vs. Atlanta causing him to miss the game. Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said, “He set himself back a little against the Falcons.”

--A look at the Redskins team after 14 games including offensive and defensive MVPs and the top three storylines of the season. The Redskins look to get their first win over an NFC East opponent this season as the Cowboys come to FedExField this Sunday.

--One reporter looks at Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins and the chances the Cleveland Browns may want Cousins services next year. Tony Grossi who has covered the Browns for nearly 30 years suggests it wont happen.
