Washington Redskins Morning Clips: 10/24

Posted Oct 24, 2013

A morning roundup of what the local and national media have to say about the Washington Redskins on Thursday, October 24, 2013.

A morning roundup of what the local and national media have to say about the Washington Redskins on Thursday, October 24, 2013.

--After defeating the No.2 ranked scoring offense (30.4 points per game) the Chicago Bears, the Washington Redskins expect another high scoring affair against the Denver Broncos. The Broncos have the NFL’s No.1 scoring offense averaging (42.6 points per game).

--After an appeal, Redskins safety Brandon Merriweather’s two game suspension was reportedly reduced to one game.

--Redskins cornerbacks DeAngelo Hall and Josh Wilson stand up for safety Brandon Meriweather and respond to comments made about Meriweather by Chicago Bears players.

--Injury updates and what caused an injury to Leonard Hankerson’s foot that made him miss Wednesday’s practice.

--After suffering a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, Redskins defensive lineman Stephen Bowen will try and play through pain and remain in the lineup vs Denver.

--Redskins safety Reed Doughty’s playing status is still in question for Sunday’s game vs. Denver. Doughty suffered a concussion trying to recover an onsides kick vs. the Chicago Bears.

--After a 45-yard touchdown catch vs. the Chicago Bears, the Redskins should consider getting receiver Aldrick Robinson more involved in the offense. Robinson has three receptions, eight targets and 88 yards receiving through six games.

--Jordan Pugh has been re-signed by the Redskins and looks to add depth to the safety position.

--How adjustments made by the Redskins offense helped the offensive line and running backs produce a great game running the football. Adjusting to the Bears defensive front allowed running backs Alfred Morris and Roy Helu Jr. to rush for a combined 136 yards and three touchdowns.

--Five questions for the Redskins as they prepare for Denver including how will the Redskins try to stop Peyton Manning. The answer may be found with the Redskins offense, the Redskins must not settle for field goals in the redzone and put up points early in the first half.

--Why former Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer will be rooting a little harder for the Broncos on Sunday. The Broncos take on Plummer’s former coach Mike Shanahan and the Redskins on Sunday.

--Former Redskins offensive lineman Mark May expresses his thoughts on a coaching change in Washington and how the Redskins should keep their quarterback healthy for the future.

--How one Redskins fan decided to show his support of the team by giving away Redskins pins before the game vs. Chicago.

--How Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning almost signed with the Redskins and how the Redskins plan to stop Manning and his high powered offense that hasn’t scored less than 33 points all season.

--One reporter tries to answer the question, where has tight end Fred Davis gone? Davis’ career has been hindered by injuries and many wonder if Davis’ talent is better suited elsewhere due to the depth the Redskins have at tight end.

--Quarterback Robert Griffin III is letting his play prove that his knee injury is a thing of the past. Griffin was electric, rushing the football for 84 yards and must continue making plays to keep up with the fast paced and high scoring offense of the Denver Broncos.

--Rookie tight end Jordan Reed receives high praise, head coach Mike Shanahan called his jump-ball touchdown catch “a thing of beauty.” Reed had nine catches for 134 yards, the 85th pick looks to be one of the steals of the 2013 draft.

--Three important storylines to follow as the Redskins prepare to play the Broncos including keeping Denver’s special teams return specialist Trindon Holliday in check.
