Stats Recap: Redskins-Steelers

Posted Oct 29, 2012

A list of notes and statistics from Sunday's Redskins-Steelers game, as compiled by Redskins Public Relations.

  • The Washington Redskins fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 27-12, in front of an announced crowd of 62,371 people at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
  • Linebacker London Fletcher extended his consecutive games played streak to 232, the longest active streak in the NFL. He also extended his consecutive starts streak to 187.
  • Robert Griffin III threw the eighth touchdown pass of his rookie season, finding wide receiver Santana Moss for a one-yard touchdown on fourth down in the second quarter.
  • The receiving touchdown by Moss was the 61st of his career, 42nd as a Redskin and fifth of the 2012 season.
  • Moss’ five receiving touchdowns this season are a team high and match the team’s individual high from a season ago (Jabar Gaffney – five).
  • The drive lasted 13 plays and was the 11th scoring drive of 10 plays or more by the Redskins this season.
  • The touchdown improved the Redskins to 7-for-7 on fourth down conversions on their first seven fourth down conversion attempts this season.
  • The Redskins would add another fourth down conversion in the fourth quarter before failing to convert on their ninth fourth down conversion attempt of the season. Washington entered the game as one of four teams with a 100 percent fourth down conversion percentage (Houston, NY Giants, NY Jets) and was eight-of-eight before the failed conversion.
  • The Redskins rushed for 86 yards on 21 carries, giving Washington 1,330 rushing yards for the season. The Redskins lead the NFL in total rushing yards as of the conclusion of Sunday’s 1 p.m. games.
  • The 1,330 rushing yards mark the Redskins’ second-highest rushing total since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger in the first eight games of the season (1,338 in 1984).
  • The 86-yard rushing game snapped a streak in which the team had rushed for 100 yards or more in 13 consecutive games. Before Sunday, the Redskins’ 13-game streak was the longest in the NFL by 10 games (St. Louis – three).
  • Running back Alfred Morris rushed 13 times for 59 yards, giving him 717 yards on the season. His 717 rushing yards are the third-most in the NFL as of the conclusion of Sunday’s 1 p.m. games, trailing only Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson (775) and Seattle’s Marshawn Lynch (757).
  • Morris’ 717 rushing yards mark the ninth time since the merger that a Redskins running back has compiled 700 or more rushing yards in the first eight games of a season. He is the first to accomplish the feat since Clinton Portis in 2008.
  • Morris now has seven games with 50 or more rushing yards. He is the first Redskins rookie since at least 1970 to accomplish the feat in the first eight games of a season.
  • Kicker Kai Forbath remained perfect on field goal attempts in his NFL career, hitting a 48-yarder in the third quarter and a 45-yarder in the fourth quarter to improve to 6-for-6.
  • Washington entered the game as one of five NFL teams to have not allowed a 100-yard rusher this season. Steelers running back Jonathan Dwyer rushed for 107 yards and became the first player to rush for 100 yards in a game against the Redskins since Week 16 last season when Minnesota’s Toby Gerhart rushed for 109 yards on Dec. 24, 2011.
  • Wide receiver Joshua Morgan recorded his first rushing attempt as a Redskin, rushing for nine yards on a first-quarter reverse. He would later add the first pass attempt of his career, throwing an incompletion intended for Griffin III.
  • Morgan added a team-high five receptions for 46 yards. His five receptions tied his season high, set in St. Louis in Week 2.
  • In the first quarter, linebacker Ryan Kerrigan registered the 12th sack of his career, dropping receiver Emmanuel Sanders, who was established as a passer on the play, for a seven-yard loss. Kerrigan now has 4.5 sacks this season, a team high.
  • Tight end Logan Paulsen caught a career-long 31-yard reception in the first quarter. Paulsen had 43 receiving yards and tied his career-high with four receptions.
  • On the first play of the second half, tight end Niles Paul registered a career-long 37-yard reception.
  • Brandon Banks posted a season-long 27-yard punt return in the third quarter.
  • Wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe registered his first reception as a Redskin, gaining 14 yards on a pass from Griffin III on the final play of the third quarter.
  • Chris Cooley, in his first game back with the Redskins, started at tight end. It was his first start since Oct. 16, 2011 vs. Philadelphia last season in Week 6
  • The Redskins have now scored 213 points this season, the fifth-highest total in team history through eight games since the merger, trailing the 1983 (267), 1999 (259), 1991 (248) and 1984 (217) seasons.
