Somber Portis Talks About Sean Taylor

Posted Nov 26, 2007

Clinton Portis is one of Sean Taylor's closest friends. "It's hard," he said of Taylor's situation. "How can you deal with it?" Full Story

Clinton Portis, one of Sean Taylor’s closest friends, spoke to the media on Monday morning and discussed the ongoing situation involving Taylor.

Taylor was the victim of a shooting at his home in Florida early on Monday morning. He is currently undergoing treatment at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida.

"It’s an unfortunate situation," Portis said. "It’s hard. How can you deal with it? It’s hard. There’s nothing we can do. All we can think about is if he had been with us on the flight to Tampa, if he was at the game with us, then he would not have been in that situation.

"At the same time, you can’t divert or change God’s plan. Sean is a tough guy and I believe he will pull through this."

Portis and Taylor played together at the University of Miami.

At Redskins Park, their lockers are adjacent to each other.

Taylor and his girlfriend had a baby girl last year. That had resulted in a change in the Pro Bowl safety, Portis said.

"Ever since Sean had his little girl, it was like a new Sean," Portis said. "He was always smiling, always happy, always talking about his child. It was good to see Sean walk by smiling.

"Now all of a sudden, his back is up against the wall, our backs are up against the wall."
