During yesterday's post-practice media session, head coach Mike Shanahan confirmed that he was rewarding the team's hard work this offseason with no mini-camp practice today.
"We’ve done a heck of a job throughout the offseason, all these OTA’s," he said. "Tomorrow will be more of a workout, running and lifting, more of a meeting day, but we won’t go through what we did today."
Shanahan praised his team's conditioning coming into the offseason workouts, and said that his decision was motivated by keeping the players healthy.
"We’re a little banged up," he explained. "We’ll run, we’ll lift, then, we’ll have a couple hours of film, but we’re not going to practice tomorrow afternoon."
This nine-week offseason workout program was the first of its kind under Shanahan in Washington. After his arrival in 2010, the staff worked to implement the playbook for much of the offseason. Last year, the lockout canceled organized team workouts.
Going into 2012, Shanahan is pleased with the direction and makeup of his team.
"We got a lot of people working hard, going in the same direction," he said. "To be able to spend that time getting to learn the system, feeling comfortable with each other, it’s been a big plus for us.
"We've got some competition. We got a lot done. Hopefully, with a five-week vacation, they’ll come back ready to go.”
