The Washington Redskins have bolstered their secondary with the addition of 34-year-old free agent safety Ryan Clark.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Looks like I have some phone calls to make tomorrow!!" Clark said from his account, @Realrclark25. "Steeler fan good byes and Redskins fan hellos!! Should be fun!!"
Clark's signing gives the Redskins a free safety with 15 career interceptions and 827 tackles in his 12-year career. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2011 after amassing 100 tackles and an interception and sack each that year.
Veteran Redskins wide receiver
"[Clark's] one of those guys that if you watched him the past few years, he still can play the position real well," Moss said Monday evening. "He's like a quarterback on the defense."
Moss likened Clark's leadership abilities to those of legendary Redskins linebacker
"He's going to get the guys in order, he knows his job well and he's not going to shy away from laying whoever's in his area out," Moss said. "I'm glad to have him back."
Clark began his career in 2002, when he was signed by the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent out of LSU. He went on to play all 16 games the following season, starting four, before he was signed by the Redskins in 2004, where in two seasons he played in 28 games, starting 24, and broke out in 2005 with three interceptions and a half-sack.
Clark began his eight-year run with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2006, where he would go on to win a Super Bowl title in 2008 — a 27-23 win over the Arizona Cardinals.
At LSU, Clark started 36 consecutive games at free safety, and he was an All SEC second-team selection in 2000.
Ryan Terry Clark was born Oct. 12, 1979, in Marrero, La. He attended the city's Archbishop Shaw High School.
In 2012, Clark started Ryan Clark's Cure League to raise money for sickle cell disease research, clinical care and increased awareness about the disease.
