Report: Chris Long To Visit The Redskins

Posted Mar 7, 2016

A veteran of eight seasons and a former second-overall pick out of Virginia, free agent defensive end Chris Long will reportedly visit the Washington Redskins tomorrow.

A veteran of eight seasons and a former second-overall pick out of Virginia, free agent defensive end Chris Long will reportedly visit the Washington Redskins tomorrow.

Defensive end Chris Long will be visiting the Washington Redskins tomorrow, according to ESPN’s Trey Wingo.

Long, 30, was released by the Los Angeles Rams last month after eight seasons with the organization.

A University of Virginia product, Long was taken with the second-overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.

As a rookie, Long started all 16 regular season games for the Rams, recording 40 tackles with four sacks and a forced fumble while earning All-Rookie Team honors.

During the 2011 season, Long recorded a career-high 13 sacks while also forcing a fumble.

From Weeks 9-16 that year, Long totaled 10 sacks including a single game career-high three quarterback takedowns against the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 30.

His last two seasons have been limited by injury, though, as he played just six games in 2014 due to an ankle injury that required surgery.

The 6-foot-3, 268 pounder would return for the 2015 season, but appeared in only 12 games.

For his career, Long has amassed 246 tackles with 54.5 sacks, eight passes defensed and eight fumbles forced while also being selected as NFC Defensive Player of the Week three times (Week 6, 2010; Week 8, 2011; Week 11, 2013).

The Redskins are trying to revamp their defensive line with several changes on the horizon.

Jason Hatcher has reportedly been released while Kedric Golston, Terrance Knighton and Frank Kearse will officially become free agents this week.
