Redskins Sign TE Vernon Davis

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed unrestricted free agent tight end Vernon Davis. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Davis (6-3, 250) is a veteran of 10 NFL seasons after originally being selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the first round (No. 6 overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft. For his career, he has appeared in 148 regular season games with 140 starts, recording 461 receptions for 5,841 yards (12.7 avg.) with 55 receiving touchdowns. Davis has also appeared in 11 playoff contests, starting nine, and has recorded 27 receptions for 600 yards (22.2 avg.) with seven receiving touchdowns in postseason play.

Davis spent parts of his first 10 seasons with the 49ers before being traded to the Denver Broncos on Nov. 2, 2015. In addition to two Pro Bowl selections (2009 and 2013), he has made two Super Bowl appearances, starting Super Bowl XLVII for the 49ers and starting for the Broncos in their Super Bowl 50 victory last February.

Davis played collegiately at Maryland, recording 83 receptions for 1,371 yards with nine touchdowns in 35 career games. He was named a consensus All-American and All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection following his junior campaign in which he recorded 51 catches for 871 yards with six touchdowns.

Davis, 32, attended Dunbar H.S. in Washington, D.C., where he was a second-team All-USA selection by USA Today as a senior. He was born Jan. 31, 1984.
