The Redskins have signed free agent long snapper Nick Sundberg to a reserve/futures contract, the team announced on Friday.
Sundberg joins 16-year veteran Ethan Albright as long snappers on the Redskins’ roster.
Albright is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, so his future in Washington is uncertain. He has served as the Redskins' long snapper since 2001.
Sundberg spent the final two weeks of the 2009 regular season and postseason as a member of the Baltimore Ravens practice squad.
Originally signed by the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 1, 2009, Sundberg was with the Panthers for the 2009 preseason before being waived on Sept. 7, 2009.
Before entering the NFL, Sundberg played four seasons at California where he became the Golden Bears’ regular long snapper as a true freshman and played 52 consecutive games at the position.
