Redskins Sign Lee For O-Line Depth

Posted Apr 9, 2012

Formerly with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, offensive tackle James Lee is expected to provide the Redskins with more experience up front. He could compete for playing time at right tackle.

The Redskins have signed unrestricted free agent offensive tackle James Lee, the team announced on Monday.

Lee, 6-4 and 305 pounds, is expected to provide more experience along the offensive line.

He could compete for playing time at right tackle, where Jammal Brown has started most of the last two years but has struggled with injury.

Lee has appeared in 19 games with 10 starts during his career, all with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In 2011, Lee appeared in three games with one start for the Buccaneers. He played in 15 games with nine starts in 2010, helping the Buccaneers average 125.1 rushing yards per game, which ranked third in the NFC (eighth in the NFL).

He entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Cleveland Browns in 2008. He was claimed off waivers by the Buccaneers on Sept. 1, 2008.

Lee, 26, played college football at South Carolina State where he appeared in 33 games with 31 starts. As a senior, he was named third-team All-American by the Associated Press and was an honorable mention choice for the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) All-America squad.

Lee is a native of Belle Glade, Fla.
