Redskins Re-sign Montgomery, Scott

Posted Feb 27, 2012

The Redskins have re-signed guard/center Will Montgomery and defensive lineman Darrion Scott, the team has announced. Both were scheduled to be unrestricted free agents this offseason.

The Redskins have re-signed guard/center Will Montgomery and defensive lineman Darrion Scott, the team announced on Monday.

Both Montgomery and Scott were scheduled to be unrestricted free agents this offseason.

Montgomery, a native of Centreville, Va., started 16 games last season for the first time in his NFL career.

He played 14 games at center and two at left guard after Kory Lichtensteiger was lost for the season with a knee ligament injury.

Despite matching up against bigger defensive tackles, Montgomery withstood the rigors of his first 16-game stint.

He was one of two offensive players -- along with right guard Chris Chester -- to start in all 16 games for the Redskins in 2011.

Montgomery, 6-3 and 310 pounds, is a 6-year veteran. He completed his fourth season with the Redskins in 2011.

He helped the Redskins' ground game average 129.0 yards in the last six games of the regular season.

Scott played in seven games for the Redskins, serving as a backup at defensive end. He logged 10 tackles and four quarterback pressures in limited action.

He was released by the Redskins in Week 10 but rejoined the roster a week later after Kedric Golston was placed on injured reserve with a knee ligament injury.

Scott is a 6-year NFL veteran. He played the first four seasons of his NFL career with Minnesota, logging 77 tackles, 9.5 sacks and one forced fumble, before joining the Redskins in 2010.
