Redskins Re-Sign Tight End Logan Paulsen

The Washington Redskins have re-signed tight end Logan Paulsen, according to reports. Paulsen missed the entire 2015 season after undergoing a procedure on his toe.

Logan Paulsen is back in the fold with the Washington Redskins.

The Redskins formally announced Friday that Paulsen is returning to the team on what's being reported as a one-year deal.

Paulsen, 29, has played with the Redskins since 2010 when he joined the team as a college free agent out of UCLA.

For his career, Paulsen has tallied 79 receptions for 801 yards and six touchdowns. He missed the 2015 season with a toe injury, though.

Paulsen made his NFL debut on Sept. 26, 2010 against the then-St. Louis Rams. He would later record his first reception as a professional, hauling in a nine-yard reception against the New York Giants on Dec. 5.

One week later, Paulsen grabbed his first career touchdown, a one-yard reception against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Paulsen had arguably his best career season offensively in 2013 when he hauled in 28 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns.

While Paulsen’s receiving numbers don’t exactly stand out, he is strongest as a blocker, an area the Redskins desire to improve upon in 2016.

In his and Niles Paul’s absence during the 2015 season, the team used tackle Tom Compton as a blocking tight end. Compton is not expected to return this season, though.

“Logan Paulsen is a great example for anyone on a football team the way he played and the way he finished,” tight ends coach Wes Phillips said last season.

Paulsen also provides veteran leadership for the special teams units and could see an increased role there this season, especially with Darrel Young no longer on the roster.

As it stands now with Paulsen returning, the Redskins will have five tight ends on the roster with Derek Carrier, Jordan Reed, Marcel Jensen and Paul as well.

Carrier’s status for the start of the season is unclear, though, as he rehabs from a December torn ACL and MCL.

The team reportedly hosted veteran Vernon Davis today.
