Redskins Make Cuts, Finalize 53-Man Roster

Posted Aug 31, 2013

The Washington Redskins announced final roster cuts on Saturday evening, including a number of surprises at quarterback, safety and offensive tackle.

Roster cuts were due to the NFL league office today by 6 p.m. Teams were mandated to cut rosters from 75 players to the 53-man rosters they will carry throughout the season.

The team also placed OL Maurice Hurt on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list.

On Friday, the team terminated the contract of CB Ryan Mouton from the Reserve/Injured list with an injury settlement and waived LB Roddrick Muckelroy from the Reserve/Injured list with an injury settlement.

Of the departed players, seven spent time with the organization last season, with Gomes leading the way with three starts at safety.

With the healthy return of Branond Meriweather and the emergence of Bacarri Rambo, Gomes' spot became expendable.

The remaining roster includes four quarterbacks, five wide receivers, three offensive tackles, five offensive guards, one center, four tight ends, one fullbacks and four running backs on offense.

On defense, the team has five defensive ends, two nose tackles, five outside linebackers, four inside linebackers, five cornerbacks, five safeties.

The team sports the same three specialists from last year.
