The Washington Redskins announced today they have signed three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Jackson's acquisition for the Redskins adds an elite deep threat to an already-talented wide receiver group that includes Pierre Garçon, Leonard HankersonAldrick Robinson, Santana Moss and the recently-acquired Andre Roberts, as well as second-year tight end Jordan Reed.

Jackson, 27, is coming off a career year with the Philadelphia Eagles in which he established regular-season career highs in games started (16), receptions (82) and receiving yards (1,332) and matched his career high with nine receiving touchdowns en route to his third career Pro Bowl selection – his first since making consecutive Pro Bowl appearances after the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

Multiple Redskins players in recent days have expressed their excitement about the possibility of bringing Jackson to the team. Cornerback DeAngelo Hall told CSNWashington.com that signing Jackson would "[make] my day, make my year."

"It automatically makes the special teams better," Hall said, adding, "He's a deep threat. You can't put eight in the box."

Jackson – who stands 5 foot 10 and weighs 170 pounds – was a second-round (49th overall) selection of the Eagles in the 2008 NFL Draft. In his six seasons with the NFC East foe, Jackson amassed 356 receptions for 6,117 yards (17.2 average) with 32 receiving touchdowns and 57 rushing attempts for 373 yards (6.5 average) and three rushing touchdowns. He has also returned 131 punts for 1,294 yards (9.9 average) with four touchdowns and has added 29 yards on four kick returns.

In 2009, Jackson became the first player in NFL history to make the Pro Bowl at two different positions, earning berths at both wide receiver and kick returner. That season, Jackson scored eight touchdowns covering 50 yards or more, tying an NFL record previously held by Elroy “Crazy Legs” Hirsch (1951) and Devin Hester (2007).

From 2008-10, Jackson became one of only two players in NFL history to have recorded a rushing touchdown, receiving touchdown and punt return touchdown in each of his first three seasons, joining Dick Todd, who accomplished the feat with the Redskins from 1939-41.

Jackson played collegiately at California from 2005 to 2007, appearing in 36 games with 34 starts. He recorded 162 receptions for 2,423 yards (15.0 average.) with 22 receiving touchdowns and added 24 rushing attempts for 199 yards (8.3 average) and one rushing touchdown. He also returned 38 career punts for 633 yards (16.7 average) with six touchdowns.

He earned All-Pac-10 honors in both 2006 and 2007, and was named as a consensus All-American as a punt returner as a sophomore in 2006.

Jackson attended Long Beach (Calif.) Polytechnic H.S, where he received the 2004 Glenn Davis Award from the Los Angeles Times as Southern California's Player of the Year. He was born on Dec. 1, 1986.
