Redskins Interview Rich Bisaccia Friday

Posted Jan 3, 2014

The Washington Redskins confirm that Dallas Cowboys special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia met with team officials to interview for the head coach position.

The Washington Redskins confirmed that team officials met with Dallas Cowboys special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia to interview for the head coach vacancy.

Bisaccia was named the Cowboys' special teams coordinator on Jan. 30, 2013, going to Dallas from the San Diego Chargers, where he was special teams coach and assistant head coach.

Bisaccia has familiarity with Redskins general manager Bruce Allen, whom he worked with in Tampa Bay between 2002-10.

With the Buccaneers, Bisaccia worked with special teams (2002-07) before adding the responsibilities of associate head coach and running backs (2008), before spending two of his last three seasons (2009-10) as the club’s associate head coach/special teams coach.

Bisaccia's career has been highlighted with a Bucs victory in Super Bowl XXXVII, while three of his players have been voted to the Pro Bow, 13 NFC Player of the Week awards and four NFC Player of the Month awards.

His units have scored eight total touchdowns off returns, with 18 blocked kicks: five punts, three extra points and 10 field goals.

In 2013, the Redskins ranked near the bottom of the league in all meaningful special teams categories.

Bisaccia offers a successful special teams resume, with his finest season coming in 2009. That season, the Bucs led the league in kickoff return average (26.3 yards-per-return), second in kickoff coverage (19.1 yards-per-return) and led the NFL with six blocked kicks.

Before going to the NFL, Bisaccia spent 19 seasons coaching NCAA football at Mississippi, Clemson, South Carolina and Wayne State.

Bisaccia played defensive back at Yankton College in South Dakota and is a native of Yonkers, NY. He and his wife, Jeanne, have three daughters and a son.
